Perception is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. According to Wikipedia, it is a way of regarding, understanding or interpreting something; a mental impression. Your perception may differ from others or even from reality. This is why it is important to bridge the gap between perception and reality.

An old proverb states that your perception is defined by three mirrors; the first mirror is how you see yourself, the second mirror is how others perceive you and, the third mirror is the truth. We have to realize that our perception is not always the reality.

Getting to that truth requires your active involvement so that you can identify and bridge any gaps between how you see yourself and how others see you. To bridge the gap, we have to make sure that our perception is reality. How to do this? We can conduct research or ask trusted people. Received negative feedback gracefully and with an open mind. Remember, this is how people see you.

It is also important to note that you see your true reflection. Take a moment to look at yourself in the mirror. Consider the saying about treating others the way you would like them to treat you. Well, the same principle applies when we look inward.

When we can bridge the gap between perception and truth, we can align our actions with our values. Bear in mind that to be a valued person, you must be a person of values and value.
