Alignment: the gap between what you say matters and what your actions produce.

Performance problems, disengagement, burnout and turnover are usually symptoms. Underneath them sits a gap between the direction a person or an organization says they are going and the direction their behaviour is actually taking them. Closing that gap is what we mean by alignment - and realign is a verb, not a finished state.

What misalignment looks like before anyone calls it that

Most leaders attack the problem they can see. These are the words they use when they call us - and every one of them is a symptom, not a cause:

Low motivationPoor performanceBurnoutEmployee disengagementCommunication problemsLeadership problemsTurnover and retentionRelationship strainMissed goalsProductivity that stalls

Treating the symptom is like painting rust. Employee engagement programs, productivity tools, performance reviews and leadership training all work - but only once they are pointed at the actual gap. That is why every Life Pulse engagement starts with a diagnosis instead of a proposal.

Alignment is measured in four places, not one

We cannot tell whether someone is aligned by looking only at their career, company, income, health, relationships or internal life on its own. We look across four areas at once. The objective is not perfection in all four - it is to understand what you actually want, where you currently are, and whether what you are doing is taking you there.

01

Internal

Who do you want to become internally?

Identity · Mindset · Faith · Purpose · Fulfillment

02

Physical

What do you want your physical life and capacity to look like?

Health · Energy · Capacity · Habits · Recovery

03

Relational

What do you want your relationships to look like?

Marriage · Family · Friendships · Communication · Community

04

Professional

What do you want professionally?

Leadership · Business · Career · Team · Performance · Goals

How we close the gap: Expose → Bridge → Sustain

Bridging the Gap™ is the method underneath every Life Pulse engagement - executive coaching, leadership development, corporate training, workshops and keynotes all run on it.

01 — EXPOSE

Where are you trying to go, and where are you actually headed?

Expose the gap between what you say matters and what your current actions are producing.

02 — BRIDGE

What needs to change to close the gap?

Build the bridge between current reality and desired reality using the appropriate Life Pulse principles, practices, tools, metrics and solutions.

03 — SUSTAIN

How do we keep the bridge standing?

Create the structure, practices, measurements and systems necessary to continually realign as life, people and circumstances change.

Realignment is not a destination. It is a process.

Where alignment work shows up

Same diagnosis, different room. For an individual it looks like coaching and the Precision Pulse Session™. For a team it looks like leadership development, accountability structure and employee engagement work. For an organization it looks like corporate training, workshops, certification and culture measurement.

Alignment questions people ask

What is alignment in the workplace?

Alignment is the relationship between what a person or an organization says matters and what their actions are actually producing. When the two match, performance, engagement and fulfillment tend to follow. When they do not, you see the symptoms first - missed goals, burnout, turnover, disengagement - and treat those instead of the cause.

How is alignment different from employee engagement?

Engagement is a measurement of how invested people feel. Alignment is a diagnosis of why. An engagement survey tells you the score; alignment work tells you which gap is producing it, and which change closes it.

What causes misalignment on a team?

Usually a gap between stated priorities and the behaviour the system actually rewards: goals nobody owns, expectations nobody restates, leaders who inspect what is urgent instead of what matters, and people whose own purpose was never connected to the work.

How do you measure alignment?

Across four areas at once - internal, physical, relational and professional - because looking at the professional area alone hides the cost being paid somewhere else. The Alignment Assessment scores where you are now; the free gap audit reads it back with the gap underneath it.

How long does realignment take?

Exposing the gap takes one honest conversation. Bridging it is the work, and it is paced to what the person or organization can actually sustain. Realign is a verb, not a finished state - the sustain step exists because life, people and circumstances keep moving.
