“No one hates war more than a soldier.”
These words, often attributed to President Dwight D. Eisenhower, carry a powerful truth — not just about military service, but about how we deal with the pain in our own lives. In this week’s LPF Weekly Wisdom, we explore why acknowledging past pain is not a weakness but a strength and how it can become a catalyst for forward movement.
What Eisenhower Meant
Dwight D. Eisenhower, a five-star general and former U.S. President, is remembered for saying, “Nobody hates war more than a soldier who has experienced it.”
Why? Because soldiers have lived through it. They’ve seen the cost, endured the hardship, and carry the emotional weight long after the battle ends. Their disdain for war is not rooted in fear — it comes from experience. The same can be said for our personal struggles.
Recognize Pain, Don’t Avoid It
We all face emotional wars — past failures, trauma, grief, or personal regrets. These experiences shape us. Pretending they don’t exist or trying to suppress them does more harm than good.
The pain you’ve felt is real. Your dislike for those situations is valid. You hate them not because you’re weak, but because you know what it was like to endure them. That acknowledgment isn’t a sign of fear — it’s a sign of awareness.
But awareness must be followed by action.
Move Forward Like a Soldier
Despite the pain, soldiers return to the battlefield when duty calls. They do what needs to be done — not because they enjoy it, but because they understand the mission.
We must do the same in our lives. Moving forward in the face of fear or discomfort is not denial; it’s discipline. Recognizing the things we hate or the pain we’ve experienced gives us the insight we need to act more wisely the next time.
Let your past fuel your purpose, not your paralysis.
Your 7-Day Challenge
Over the next seven days, take time to:
Acknowledge any lingering pain or emotional resistance.
Accept that your hatred of those experiences is based on their impact, not fear.
Take one step forward — despite how uncomfortable it may feel.
Implement this mindset for just one week and see what changes. The act of doing will begin to transform your perspective.
And once you see results, don’t keep it to yourself. Share the message with others who may need it.
Share the Wisdom
Someone you know may be carrying pain they’ve never talked about. This simple reminder could be the encouragement they need to take the next step. Share this blog or the original video so they can begin moving forward, too.
