Ever wonder what is the recipe for innovation. Let’s start by defining innovation. Innovation is creating new value and/or capturing value in a new way. The recipe for innovation has these two main ingredients: creativity and discipline. Definitely, a good mixture of creativity and discipline will bring out innovation.

What is Creativity?

Creativity is the process of connecting previously unrelated concepts, ideas, or experiences into a new idea. It occurs in the brain. In addition, creativity can be an individual process or a group process. To extract creative ideas brainstorming sessions can be conducted.

Creativity is defined by author Shawn Hunter as the capability or act of conceiving something original or unusual. It remains an idea alone. Moreover, he also said that innovation doesn’t happen without the creativity of people.

What is Discipline?

Discipline is the practice of making people obey rules or standards of behavior, This is the implementation part.  The idea needs to be acted upon for it to become an innovation.

Having the idea of how to make things better is not enough if you do not have the discipline to do it or constantly implement your brilliant idea. On the other hand, innovation makes things better and should be done more often.
