How to take the first step and start something new in your life? This is a question we often ask ourselves. I say, to start something new, bring it with you. For instance, you want to increase your water intake, so carry a water bottle with you.

In this way, you will always be reminded to drink water. If you want to have a more productive day, do some planning. Get a planner and carry it with you wherever you go.

Starting something new in your life is not a walk in the park. There are many factors at play. The fear of the unknown. Your self-doubt. Of course, the pressure to do it now.  Follow the steps below on how to start something new.

Steps on how to start something new

  • Write down the reason why you want to start something new.

Writing down something you want reinforces it. Outline your plan of action on the things that you want to change and carry it with you always.  This will be your constant reminder and follow through with the thing you want to change.

  • Create long-term and short-term goals.

Listing down goals that are time-bound will help you progress. Identify first your long-term goal. From the long-term goal, determine the short-term goals that you need in order to achieve the long-term goal. With the short-term goal, you may design a 30-day, 60-day or 90-day goal. In this way, you can check on your progress.

  • Commit.

Commit to working hard for the things you want to change. We already established that this is not an easy endeavor. You have to work hard and commit yourself to follow through. In this way, you can change something for the better.

Desiring to start something new in your life is easy. Reaching for it is the challenge. Many people fail to start something new because they just put in the hard work it takes to make it happen.

Starting something new really needs your commitment and action. Start small and bring it with you.
